I was recently planning a trip to Canada and wondered if you can actually bring a dildo into the country with you? As an American citizen, I am used to more relaxed laws and regulations in regards to sex products, so I was eager to get to the bottom of this one.
I had heard that you cannot bring a dildo into some other countries, but I couldn’t seem to find a straight answer online about Canada. To be on the safe side, a friend suggested I call the Canadian Embassy for an official answer. So, I did.
The woman on the phone confirmed my suspicions – Canada is the land of the free (at least for adult sex toys) and you can bring a dildo into the country as of 2019. However, she did suggest that it might be wise to keep it in the original packaging if possible so as not to be subject to any additional scrutiny when entering the country.
I was relieved to find out this information. I had read horror stories about travelers being denied entry at the border if the officers found out that a person was carrying a dildo or other sex toy. Apparently some non-Canadian customs officials lack a sense of humor and are all too eager to deny people entry if they are not following the rules to the letter.
Luckily, though, I was not going to experience such a situation. I would be able to take my dildo with me and head on my merry way – as long as I stuck to the rules about packaging.
When I arrived in Canada, my primary intention was to relax and have some time to myself without worrying about what people may or may not think of me. I wasn’t planning on shocking anyone with my dildo. I just wanted to use it whenever I saw fit without any nasty repercussions.
Consequently, I was relieved to find out that the Canadian authorities were no longer opposed to dildos. I didn’t have to hide my sex toy anymore or worry about being arrested for owning one.
And, thankfully, I didn’t have to worry about annoying customs officers who were just trying to make an example out of me. It was nice to know that Canada was still an open-minded society that welcomed people who weren’t afraid to take charge of their sex lives.
Now that I know about the new laws in Canada, I feel more secure and relaxed when travelling there. Personally, I think it’s great that Canada has opened up in regards to adult sex toys. After all, everyone should have the freedom to express their sexuality in whatever way they choose, without fear of any repercussions.
In further exploring the topic, I learnt that Canada has gone through quite the legal transformation when it comes to sex toys. Only a few years ago, it was actually illegal to even transport a dildo from Point A to Point B within Canada – never mind bringing one across the border!
At first, many people were surprised and dismayed by this law. After all, it seemed like a pretty backwards thing to criminalize an individual for owning something that was designed for the sole purpose of pleasure.
Fortunately, in 2019, the federal court of Canada made a landmark decision that overturned this law. This meant that Canadian citizens were no longer at risk of being convicted of a crime simply for owning a sex toy.
Since then, people in Canada have become more confident about expressing their sexuality without fear of persecution. This is a huge step forward in terms of sexual freedom and many people have applauded this decision.
Now that sex toys are no longer seen as taboo in Canada, more and more people are becoming comfortable talking about these products openly. This has been particularly beneficial for those who have been shamed or judged for owning a sex toy in the past.
Further, it is worth mentioning that Canada is not the only country to legalize sex toys in recent years. For instance, Australia was the first country to decriminalize sex toys in 2011, while many other countries have followed suit since then.
It can be argued that by legalizing sex toys, all of these countries are encouraging citizens to become more comfortable with their sexuality and exploration of pleasure. With the stigma slowly being lifted, it gives individuals the freedom to express themselves in whichever way feels best to them.
Also, it seems like a better use of the police force to target actual criminals than to be concerned about someone using a dildo in the privacy of their own home!
So, I’m glad to report that, yes, you can bring a dildo into Canada in 2019! But, just be sure to keep it in its packaging and adhere to the laws of the land if you decide to travel there. Once you do step foot on Canadian soil, I bet you’ll enjoy the freedom of exploring all that it has to offer!
